The one thing you need to do if you are serious about getting the right projection screen for HD
The best way to find out whether the projector screen of your choice will give you the best permance is to look at that exact same screen.
That’s easier said than done of course, as the brand of your choice might not be available from a local reseller. Or..you want to buy your screen on-line.
What to do then?
Well, you should request screen fabric samples. Most manufacturers will supply them, so request them and compare.
Here’s what to look for:
1. The fabric should be smooth, so should not have a coarse grain. If there’s a coarse grain, you’ll see that grain as a background in your projection, especially in animated movies.
2. The fabric should have an even finish, and not have specs in the fabric. These specs will light up. Sure they can brighten up your projecion, but if brightness is an issue – this is what you should look at
3. If you want to have your projection screen in front of a window, make sure the fabric is perfectly opaque. That means it won’t let any light through that comes from the back. If there’s light coming through the back of the fabric, it will interfere with your projection and wash out the image that you see.
